The event will be free and open to the public, but donations of cash and/or dog food would be appreciated. Dogs in Suds, which offers both do-it-yourself and professional grooming, will host a variety of experts and activities that afternoon, and there will be free refreshments for both 2-and 4-legged visitors. Special furry guests will include K9 deputies from the Geauga Sheriff's Department and a few adoptable "best friends in waiting" from the Geauga Dog Shelter. "Bring your well-behaved, friendly dogs for an afternoon of socializing and pampering," said Dogs in Suds owner Lauren Sobol, who adopted her Chow, "Guy," from the Geauga Dog Shelter more than five years ago. One of the event's highlights will be dog massaging, and a professional in that field will discuss the relaxing and health-enhancing benefits of canine massage. Experts will speak about dog nutrition, wholesome dog treats, general health, grooming, training, and more. The Geauga Dog Warden will describe the county's dog shelter and give advice about how to be safe (and keep children safe) around dogs, and how to protect and nurture pet dogs. Pet portrait artist Anita Silverman will draw pictures of dogs at their owners' request. Pampered Pooch Day will also feature a raffle. The grand prize will be an "Extreme Pooch Make-Over." Other prizes include "doggie gift baskets." Tickets are $1, or 6 for $5. Raffle tickets are available at Dogs in Suds from now to Nov. 5. Since space is limited, advance reservations are suggested. To make a reservation, or for more information, call Dogs in Suds at 440-729-1211. |
